SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT
EU PROJECTS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE 42nd DANCE WEEK FESTIVAL
Why Are They Important for the Croatian Dance Scene?

The Dance Week Festival (TSP) is actively participating in three major European projects that bring international visibility, new production support, networking opportunities for young authors, and the strengthening of regional and European dance scenes. These collaborations reaffirm TSP’s status as a key stakeholder within the contemporary European dance network.

1. MOVING BALKANS

www.movingbalkans.eu

A platform uniting the Balkan dance scene at the European level for the first time
🔹 Coordinated collaboration among 11 countries of the region
🔹 Showcases in Ljubljana, Rijeka, and Zagreb (May 10–13, 2025)
🔹 Featuring works by 10 choreographers and 6 additional artists, selected from 110 applications
🔹 Audience: over 100 festival curators and journalists from Europe, Asia, Canada, and the USA

Why It Matters:
This is a historic opportunity for artists from the region to gain recognition within a European context. This platform enables Croatian choreographers to present their work alongside the region’s finest talents and connects them with key players of the European festival and production network. The project also provides education and capacity-building for partner organizations.

Croatian representatives:
AGENDA (Simone Aughterlony & Saša Božić)

2. BEYOND FRONTA: BRIDGING PERIPHERY

Revitalizing the creative potential of young artists from Central and Eastern Europe
🔹 Coordination among 6 organizations from Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden
🔹 Focus on marginalized dance scenes and emerging talents
🔹 Creates opportunities for networking, mobility, and co-productions

Why It Matters:
The project creates opportunities beyond major cultural centers and promotes equal access to European resources. Croatian artists have the chance to participate in international productions and enter the circulation of the European dance network.

3. VISITING ARTIST PROGRAM (VAP)

A new European initiative helping young artists build sustainable careers
🔹 Consortium of 22 European festivals, including TSP
🔹 Focus on direct connections between artists, festival producers, and contexts
🔹 Knowledge sharing, network creation, work presentations, education

Why It Matters:
VAP offers tangible production support and visibility for emerging artists from Croatia and the region. With TSP’s inclusion in this network, local artists can become part of a new wave of European choreography. Connecting young artists with international curators and producers increases their chances for residencies, tours, and new collaborations.

By participating in these projects, TSP becomes a platform for developing dance as a social, cultural, and creative force.
It is an opportunity to create a new professional ecosystem that connects the local and the global, empowers young talents, supports diversity, and expands opportunities for Croatian artists.

The festival not only brings outstanding international performances – it also provides space for new voices and connects the Croatian dance scene with Europe and the world.
